CONCEPT DESCRIPTION ::
MTA Real-time is a mobile interface for what matters most to commuters in New York - when the next subway is arriving. This is a flash program that runs on a Nokia user’s phone and will tell them at a glance when the next three trains are scheduled to arrive at a selected station.
WHAT IS INNOVATIVE
The timetable data is being harvested directly from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s schedule database using sophisticated PHP scripts and xml. For the first time, the next train information is available to the user without having to peruse many different web pages and menus online. The application also presents the user with an innovative interface that only requires a quick glance to know when the next train is arriving.
STATUS & DEPLOYMENT ::
Version 1 is currently online and available for download as a .swf or .sis installer. Version 2 will track user’s behavior and automatically keep track of or remember, which subway trains they usually take at certain times of the day. Undergoing memory optimization for broader device support at this time.
Technical Note ::
Tested on S60 Nokia N95, may need to boost memory settings in Device Central.
