The Bombay Observatory project was initiated by Carol Breckenridge, who is a history professor at the New School University and is married to the world renown author and New School Provost, Arjun Appadurai. The Observatory is a website meant to bring the communities of Bombay and New York closer together. There are deep connections between the New School and initiatives in Bombay including Arjun's appointment as Provost and the work of the India China Institute. Carol has sought to present these connections visually by exhibiting the work of photographers and artists whose work is influenced by the connection between the two metropolises. She approached the Communication Design and Technology Dept at Parsons in search of designers, so an online gallery could be constructed. Arava Schleff and I have been working on developing this project in Drupal and Actionscript 3, it should launch sometime in the Fall of 2008
